Today a small roster of 14 Waterloo Women competed in the Canadian University Ultimate Championship Qualifier in Montreal.
Our first game was against the University of Ottawa. The wind was a tough adversary and so was the Ottawa team. The Warrior Women lost 15-5 against Ottawa.
Next up in our pool was Queens. Having been beaten at the Steeltown tournament earlier in the season we were eager to bring the heat. And we did. The Warrior Women took the lead and never gave it back. Our strong cup led us to victory with an exciting 13-9 final score.
Winning this game placed us second in our pool which was better than we expected to perform. Our next game was against the second place team of the other women’s pool, Western.
At CEUUC we had a pretty heated game against Western but managed to pull though so we came into the game knowing that we could beat them again. Western and the Waterloo Women traded points in the beginning of the game, Western took the lead for a few points, but eventually Waterloo sustained a one point lead. Seconds before the hard cap horn blew, Western tied the game up, forcing a universe point win. Western presented a zone that proved hard to work around but with a timely huck and some patience on the end zone line the Waterloo Women pulled through and scored the last point of the game guaranteeing a spot into the top 8 for Nationals! Shoutout to the Waterloo Open B team who provided incredible support and spirit throughout the entire game which helped up our intensity.
Tomorrow we compete against the top University Women’s teams in Canada. Wish us luck!
